Opto-Mechanical Engineer (Design and Packaging Focus)

Experience: Will consider Engineer up to Sr. Engineer level depending on relevant experience and expertise.

Job Description: Development of cutting edge laser and electro-optical systems through rapid development of effective and robust opto-mechanical system designs.  Apply DFX and other design principals to create manufacturing-friendly, cost-optimized solutions that meet or exceed the functional design goals.  Devise, design and build robust tooling and process equipment suitable for reliable high-volume manufacturing.

Required Experience / Capability:

  2. Ability to work in a dynamic and at times stressful environment and maintain composure and good working relationships under stress. Requirements change frequently and rapid-turn solutions must be developed frequently.
  3. Effectively manage schedule and priorities with minimal daily direction to meet mid to long-term schedule objectives.
  4. Experience in Opto-Mechanical Engineering and Design.
  5. Experience in rugged flexure design for optical systems.
  6. Experience in optical system alignment and test methods.
  7. Experience in Solidworks.
  8. Exhibit strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with implementation of electro-optical systems.
  9. Expertise in Fabrication and Assembly Drawing Preparation for manufacturing (ISO and ANSI standards) including experience with version control and change record documentation.
  10. Experience with various manufacturing techniques – machining, sheet metal, injection molding, etc.
  11. Experience in Opto-Mechanical Assembly, including receiving and inspecting components, dry-assembly, bonding.

Additional Desired Experience / Capability

  1. Experience in thermal management systems.
  2. Experience with operation of machining equipment.
  3. Experience in vibration test and analysis and isolation methods, in particular jitter analysis for opto-mechanical systems.
  4. Experience in finite element analysis and modeling of vibration and thermal effects
  5. Experience in power systems and batteries.
  6. Experience with MATLAB & Labview.
  7. Experience in Adaptive Optical (AO) Systems and/or High Power Laser systems.
