Maintain full ownership over the SEC reporting process, SOX compliance program and stock administration. Help guide accounting and reporting decisions. Manage and develop the team of two senior staff.

Partner with business owners, finance team, and external parties, coordinating financial reporting and compliance activities and deliverables with a variety of people across the organization. Prepare information for the Audit Committee and senior management. Provide technical accounting guidance in a variety of areas.

You will also be responsible for leading ongoing SOX and other compliance efforts in support of nLIGHT’s expanding businesses in Vancouver, Washington and Hillsboro, Oregon, as well as international locations in China, Finland and Korea.

  • Drive SEC reporting process including drafting and review of the required filings, managing financial reporting calendar, coordinating governance and compliance activities.
  • Lead the design and maintenance of the SOX compliance methodology and tools.
  • Perform annual SOX scoping and risk assessment, and determine overall timeline, testing schedules, and deliverables. Coordinate and track control testing progress, control gaps, and remediation efforts. Find opportunities to optimize controls to drive efficiencies.
  • Manage stock administration programs, including broker and transfer agent coordination.
  • Support annual and quarterly audit and tax requirements, including preparation of required materials.
  • Create technical presentations and status updates to senior management and quarterly Audit Committee.
  • Research and document technical accounting topics. Monitor new accounting rules, analyze the impact on operations and reporting.
  • Document existing and develop new policies and procedures. Help develop and communicate accounting policies cross-functionally and across legal entities.
  • Build, develop, and maintain strong business relationships with business and technology partners.
  • Assist with special projects relating to other business initiatives as assigned.


  • CPA is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 3+ years of Big 4 accounting experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of total relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP with proven ability to identify, research and resolve accounting and disclosure matters, including partnering with external auditors.
  • Demonstrated experience in external reporting (10K, 10Q, 8K, Form 4, Proxy etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of PCAOB and SOX standards, US GAAP, and COSO guidelines.
  • Practical experience of performing control testing and evaluating results.
  • Must enjoy new challenges, identifying improvements and following through to drive related changes.
