LIEKKI™ APPLICATION DESIGNER V4.0

LIEKKI™ application designer (LAD) is a versatile design tool for fiber applications providing a strong platform for simulating and optimizing fiber amplifiers, amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) sources, and fiber laser systems.

This software is based on precise algorithms that account for all the reflections in the system – especially crucial for accurate laser and ASE light source simulations. The simulation engine also accurately accounts for large mode area and highly doped fibers.

Optimized algorithms and careful design allows to build LAD on a Microsoft Windows platform without the need of powerful multiprocessor workstations. This approach ensures large accessibility and reduces costs for the end users.

LIEKKI™ application designer (LAD) addresses all development and product phases for fiber lasers and amplifiers: Research, design, engineering and manufacturing, application end user and education.

LAD in research
	LAD provides researchers with the tools to investigate properties and behaviors, which are impossible, too time consuming or expensive to investigate in the laboratory. For instance: The effects after adjusting the core composition or the mode field shape for high-order propagation modes. By viewing the mode field inside the fiber, one can investigate the overlap between the optical beam and the dopant distribution.

LAD as a design tool
	The design cycle of an active fiber can be greatly reduced by using LAD. New refractive index profiles, rare earth doping profiles or dimensions can be easily set and tested. By setting the doping profile, one can optimize the fiber gain.

LAD in engineering
	LAD provides the possibility to build and test a fiber amplifier or fiber laser within minutes. A fine tuning of the component parameters can be done automatically by using the built-in iterations capability. LAD calculates the optical power for signal pumps and ASE sources for each component.

LAD in manufacturing
	Monte Carlo analysis and automatic iterations are key functions to support the manufacturing process for fiber laser and fiber amplifier applications. Monte Carlo analysis evaluates how the performance is affected by the component’s tolerance.

LAD for end user
	LAD can be used by the application’s end user to forecast the behavior in various regimes, including the transients, multimode propagation, macro-bending. Mode field deformation due to fiber macro-bending is important for output fiber coupling.

LAD in education
	Having a friendly user interface with a fast learning curve, LAD is the ideal tool for active fiber courses as a simulated laboratory. All components have a comprehensive properties window that allows the user to customize the values.
